About Dr. Rachael

Hello I am Dr. Rachael and I love being a mama to my 5 children! My journey, as a mama, accelerated my passion to help women be excited rather than fearful of all aspects of motherhood.

I had my first baby almost 2 decades ago and I had no idea how to care for my body or my growing baby. I trusted in my care providers to help me through the process of being a growing mama. Surely they would help me learn how to nourish my body & help me in the delivery room?

However, a different story emerged. One that isn’t as beautiful as I had hoped. During labor, I remember lying on my side as the surges moved through my core and transferred throughout my body. The only relief I had was rubbing my head over and over with a washcloth to help ease the discomfort I was fearing would only get worse.

The contraction machine warned me of the surges before I would begin to feel them, which caused me a lot of fear. The only support that I had was my epidural, and the need to be coached to push on my back resulting in an unapproved episiotomy, and trauma to my girlie parts.

Several years later, after experiencing a natural birth, I saw this journey so differently that it became my passion. Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum looked completely different and empowering to me now, and I needed to prepare physically and mentally for each stage. Although there is an uncontrollable part to this journey, I had the skills and tools to prepare my body holistically. As a result, I went on to have my last three babes naturally and walked away with no symptoms or trauma, to (only…) minor soreness from birth. I felt so amazing that my Midwives had to caution me to rest more!

Using my experiences in motherhood and in my profession, I offer guidance, and solutions, to support women in caring for their bodies to feel clarity in the uncontrollable aspects of motherhood.

This approach enables my clients to make their holistic plan that helps them find confidence in the unknown, and to optimize their unique journey in motherhood.

The Path to Wellness

The path to wellness is very similar to life’s journey. We are challenged to make decisions that will affect how we live our lives. The approach is complex and global. Wellness requires us to work hard, research, and make decisions that will ultimately affect how we grow or recover. Through the past several years I have been on a journey to discover the roots to healing and maintaining wellness. I have discovered that having a strong and healthy foundation will enable us to think more clearly, be present with our families, have a positive, healthy outlook in life, and much more. I would love to take you on this path to wellness. I hope that you will gain some knowledge that will ultimately lead you to feeling strong as an essential part to your family. I hope that you will learn to be confident in your daily movements whether this is how you transition, or the choices you make to nurture your mind and body.

Education

I began my physical therapy journey as an aide in a sports physical therapy practice that housed the Detroit Red Wings among other professional athletes. From there I moved on in my career to work at Beaumont and Crittenton (Ascension) hospitals’ clinical settings treating various clients that had sport, orthopedic, women’s health, vestibular, neurological, and health and wellness concerns. I currently manage a private women’s health and wellness physical therapy and women’s health coach practice.

I received my doctorate degree and exercise science minor from Oakland University and has worked with clients for 14 years to restore their health.

I have received post-doctorate training in women’s health through extensive studies through Herman and Wallace, The Academy of Pelvic Health, Phoenix Core Solutions, Burrell Education, Julie Wiebe’s Piston Science, The Institute of Birth Healing, Pelvic Pain Relief, Spinning Babies, Pelvic Guru, and Physio Detective. In addition to physical therapy, I am a certified women’s health coach with the Integrative Women’s Health Institute (IWHI). With the IWHI & the Women’s Health Nutrition Academy I continue to study various topics related to health, wellness, and nutrition for women in fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond.
